抄録別表記: During the first year, students learn some specific skills and theory such as suctioning, enerma and others, which may be required in the basic nursing course. However, when they proceed to an adult nursing in their second year, they often can not utilize these skills and/or knowledge effectively in an actual clinical situation. A member of fundamental and an adult nursing faculty found reason for this phenomenon to be that students take a course of pathophysiology of the disease process in their second year. Hence they can not conceptualize the relationship between skills and theory during their first year. For this reason, it was decided that some nursing skills which had been taught in the first year were required for practice in the second year along with the learning of pathophysiology. Upon this, an adult nursing is offerd to students so that they may acquire theraputic and nursing skills during 15 laboratory hours of clinical instruction. Fifteen topics were decided in the basis of patients' needs and the purpose of nursing activity. Questionnaires were sent to students to obtain information about their reaction to the above learning method. Furthermore, in order to evaluate students'knowledge which was required to obtain in this program a (paper) test was given on the completion of the term. Students'reaction to the laboratory experience was as follows:1) Students perform skills without any difficulty, because of practice run parallel to a course in pathophysiology.2) Most of the students participated with interest in their laboratory experiences.3) Students could not accomplish some topics satisfactorily due to a lack of time. The results of the test showed that the average score on topics which they could not accomplish was comparatively low. In the discussion held a few months on the effect of this program, instructors brought it into focus that students' attitude towards applying nursing skills to patients during their clinical experience was much more positive compared to that of students a year ago who were not provided with this program. We concluded that practice in theraputic and nursing skills when given simultaneously with a lecture, was effective in providing motivation to the student. Howeveer, we also found out that the contents and the strategy of laboratory experience must be re-considered to suit students'needs. This will be a subject for future study.
