抄録別表記: Experienced physicians or nurses in the past did understand that practice of medicine or nursing is an art based on science. In old days, when Hippocrates dealt with medicine, he thought that an art of medicine is the supreme among other humane arts. However, during the history of development of the medical science, particularly of the modern era, medicine has grained a great deal from science, but it has gradually lost the aspect of the art, with which medicine or nursing was born in the old days. The auther described the original concepts of art and science as told by Hippocrates, and put emphasis on the essential role of the art, which has been disappearing in medicine or nursing in the scientific modern era. The art in medicine or nursing comes from wisdom, experience and the love of humanities. The holistic personal care which should be the goal of the modern nursing could only be attained by putting more emphasis in the art, with which one can really approach to persons with illness.
