| 抄録: | 八年研究は、1933年から8年間にわたってアメリカ合衆国の30校に及ぶハイスクールにおいて行われた進歩主義教育実践と従来の教育実践の結果を比較した大規模な実験的教育研究である。進歩主義の教育実践とは、教科中心の伝統的なカリキュラムに-対して現実の社会生活に根ざした活動を中心としたカリキュラムによって学習を進めるものである。この実験校を卒業した大学進学者たちは、大学での学業成績、その他の活動に関して他のハイスクール出身の学生と比較評価された。その結果、実験校の卒業生は概ねより優れた成績を修めていることが判った。しかしこの結果はその後の進歩主義教育の普及に役立つことなく終わった。それは教育をとり巻く政治的状況の変化によることもさることながら、八年研究自体に付随する錯綜した諸問題によるところが大きい。第一に八年研究は、ブルームらによる教育目標の分類学の発展などに見られるように行動目標的アプローチのみがその成果として強調されるきらいがあった。しかし進歩主義の教育実践とこのアプローチとはおよそ関係する必然性をもたないものであった。なによりも行動目標的アプローチの有効性について疑問があった。第二にこの実験の当初の動機は、大学に進学しない生徒に大学入学準備のためではない学習経験を与えることにあった。しかし、進歩主義教育とは何かということについて一般的合意が欠けており、実験のデザイン自体が疑問とされた。第三に大規模な教育実験は、実験であるということを意識することによって生ずる熱意効果を避けることが困難であるから実験の何がどのような効果を及ぼしたのかを同定することが困難となり、教育の企画のどこをどう改良すべきかということを発見するためにはあまり有用ではない。以上八年研究に関わる問題点の指摘は、教育における今後の評価研究を進めるうえで十分考慮されるべき内容である。 |
