| 抄録別表記: | Since Friedman, M. and Rosenman, R.H. reported the Type A behavior pattern with reference to coronary heart disease in the 1960s, it has been discussed as the characteristic behavior pattern of coronary patients. This is a study of the self-concept of myocardial infarction patients(MI patients) from the viewpoint of the Type A behavior pattern and other personality characteristics. The self-concept of MI patients was investigated by using a modified form of the Twenty-Statements-Test. The statements made by the subjects were listed into 67 items at the first stage, which were then grouped into 21 categories, including Type A categories. Thirty-nine male MI patients were compared with 45 healthy male subjects. The results were as follows:The total number of statements of the MI patients was smaller than that of the control subjects. But most of the MI patients' statements were about their "character, tendencies and attitude", and the number of Type A categories among the statements was 50.2 percent. This means that MI patients have a Type A tendency in their self-concept as well as in their behavior. Moreover, the Type A tendency in Japanese MI patients was characterized as achievement-oriented and intimacy-seeking, which we named "Type AI" personality(I= intimacy-seeking). Statistically, factor analysis using 10 factors and 4 factors for the 67 items and 21 categories, respectively, revealed that no particular factor was characteristic for MI patients. But the factor-scores of 2 factors containing non-Type A behavior in 21 categories, were negative. The MI patients' factor-scores using 10 factors were consistently positive to those factors interpreted as showing sensitivity to psychological stimuli from the outer world, and lack of skill in coping with problems. |
