| 抄録別表記: | This essay is intended to examine the theoretical development of moral education in the United States, West Germany, and Japan. After World War II, Japanese social studies teachers faced the controversy regarding the relationship between moral consciousness and social knowledge. Radical reaction against militaristic education have hindered theorizing the cognitive aspect of moral consciousness. In the U.S., Kohlberg has contributed to formalizing the congnitive development of moral consciousness. He figured the structure of moral stages free from ethical relativism which allows the individual to ignore developing significant moral values.His model helps us evaluate the individual's moral consciousness in terms of the structural order which is determined by evolutionary development of moral consciousness. Kohlberg believes that universal values are given in prior to situational changes of moral judgment. But a metaphoric ehical relativist opposes a priori formation of moral values for the reason that it is impossible to verify the validity of the hierarchical order of values. Opposing kohlberg's formalization, Habermas analyzed the complicated structure of communicative action which includes various aspects of our speech act. In order to attain other's acceptance of one's order, he/she must presuppose that an agreement is based on the process of mutual understanding and reaching consensus through the consideration of three dimensions such as the social, the physical, and the subjective. Thus, Habermas' formalization of moral stages provides a model of the further dimension of moral development, which prescribes moral development in terms of communicative action towards mutual understanding and consensus oriented society. |
