| 抄録別表記: | Through the observation of the relationship between patients living with family, who were unable to function properly, and their caregivers/family members, three types of relationship can be identified: 1) smooth;2) frictional;and 3) conflicting.Pursuing the processes leading present relationships, including favorable and unfavorable, we found it necessary to review each case more closely, keeping in mind four points assumed to indicate important causes. As a result, it becomes exident that the friction between a patient and his/her caregiver mostly arises when the patient has dementia exceeding the level of mild degree. To improve their relationship and sustain it, the caregiver should try to accept the current situation and cope with the partient's level of functioning and treat him/her with sympathy. While doing so, the caregiver should seek for social resources available and make use of them without hesitation, which will, at the same time, help encourage the family members' involvement. Moreover, providing support of those engaging in medicine, health care, and welfare is another important aspect to help families cope with the day-to-day problems of living with the aged with dementia. Especially, health workers and nurses are expected to be able to help caregivers greatly with their expertise. |
